We’ve got great new latch combinations to introduce for 2012! These are combinations of door hardware and gate hardware (Door Hardware is a new section of our shop we’ll be creating this year!), so that the front of the gate is elegant and door-like while the inside of the gate has the same spring-loaded extremely functional gate latch. We have almost a dozen combinations and sizes to choose from and they’re in stock and ready to ship!       [...]

We’ve begun calling 2011 “The Year of the 5-inch Thick Gate”. Prior to this year, the average gate thickness has been about 2″. Being married to a (wood) gate builder has been quite an education! Because 360 Yardware deals with gate hardware every day, I thought it might be interesting to marry the two issues and discuss why a gate sags and what can be done to prevent your gate from sagging. I must add a disclaimer that my husband the gate builder comes to gate building from furniture-making. Therefore, he is a crazy stickler for structure, function, and joinery. And it’s rubbed [...]

Determining which gate hinges you need for your new gate can be complicated. You’ll need to contemplate the weight and dimensions of your gate, your geographic location, and a few other special considerations. Not only do you need a hinge that will work with the size of your gate, you’ll need to figure out what type of role you want the hinge to play in your gate’s appearance. Architectural Element or No? The first factor to mull in choosing a [...]

We’ve just added some new photos to the end of our Gate Hardware Inspiration Gallery. A recent trip to Hanalei, Kauai, introduced us to a beautiful rustic wooden gate latch. This home is on the ocean and rather than use a metal gate latch, they’ve opted for a latch made from wood. Slide the wood plank to the left to open the gate, slide it back to the right to insert it into the rock column. A really clever solution!
